Blog Tour: Emblaze by Jessica Shirvington

Today I have the awesome privilege of having Jessica Shirvington, the amazing author of the Violet Eden Chapters series, here on the blog to answer a few questions about the series, her writing, and some of the authors and books she's excited about.

1. Describe the Violet Eden Chapters series in 20 words or less.
A destiny much greater than anyone could have ever imagined. Every step her choice. The consequences often heartbreaking.

2. Emblaze is the third book in the series. Does it get easier writing each book because you’re familiar with the characters now? Or is it more difficult?
Both. It gets easier because I know the characters so well and from a reader point of view, I don't have to spend the same amount of time creating the foundations of the character. With a book like Emblaze it is full of character development and many of the scenes are rich with emotion that wouldn't be the same if there wasn't already relationships established over the two previous books. At the same time, it can be harder. You know the characters so well and sometimes the way you planned or plotted a scene can no longer work because you know that you are forcing certain characters into saying or doing thing they simply would not say or do. When that happens you can't ignore it, you need to make changes and sometimes that can be difficult. (But it is always worth it!)

3. If Violet had a theme song, what would it be?
Hmm...there are a few. I've always loved Hardest Of Hearts by Florence and The Machine for Violet.

4. Which book in the series is your favorite?
I love them all because they all work off one another, but also, I do find that as the story progresses and the characters evolve that I am more and more invested in them. This story was always going to be about Violet becoming something that she was definitely not int he opening scenes of EMBRACE. In ENTICE things got more intense and in EMBLAZE even more so and it was also a lot of fun to write with an interesting chapter in there from Phoenix's point of view. ENDLESS will be out in October and I can safely say it is the most intense book I have ever written and I cried a lot when I wrote it.

5. What books are you most excited about in 2013?
The list is way too long! I'm looking forward to continuing on series that I have become attached to, discovering new books, new authors. I read a lot (no big surprise there!) and I always have certain authors I just don't have to think about - if they write it, I read it.
A snapshot of just a few Authors I love:
Neil Gaiman
Melissa Marr (Looking forward to the sequel to Carnival of Souls)
Veronica Rossi (I just finished Through the Evernight)
Richelle Mead (Looking forward to Gameboard of the Gods
Maria V Snyder
Ally Carter (I'm a sucker for The Gallagher Girls!)
Veronica Roth (the final in the Divergent series)
the list goes on...

6. Are there any authors you would totally fan!girl over if you met?
I would probably have a serious case of nerves in front of Neil Gaiman. He is so talented and such a force in the literary world. And he is also an incredibly good public speaker.

And because those fantastic people at Sourcebooks love me, they're letting me give away a copy of EMBLAZE for one lucky winner in the US/Canada.

  4. I think you know just how badly I want to read this book and how jealous I am that you have a copy to give away! But in case you need a reason, I think that I deserve it for the simple fact that it's about angels and even though I don't like human/angel stories I LOVE THIS SERIES!
