Title: FIRE & FLOOD
Author: Victoria Scott
Publisher: Scholastic
Pages: 320
Pub. Date: February 25, 2014
Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.
Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.
The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?
Review:
I am a huge Victoria Scott fan. She wowed me with her Dante Walker series, so I have been so excited about reading her newest book, FIRE & FLOOD. Victoria did not let me down - not that I had any doubts she would.
Tella is a unique girl. I think what I loved about her most was her family bonds, especially with her brother, Cody. When presented with an opportunity to save her brother, she drops everything to do so. As the big sister of a little brother, I can assure you I understood her motivation every step of the way. There is nothing I wouldn't do for him, and no length too far to go to protect him. Tella, I feel you, girl.
Of course this is a Victoria Scott novel so you know she won't leave you hanging in the swoony boy department. I like Guy. He's strong and I just need more Guy in my life.
Fans of Victoria's first series won't be disappointed. She brings her usual wit and banter to vivid characters in dire situations. Her books are wonderful entertainment, I cannot wait to see how the next book goes.

I loved her Dante Walker books! Really swoony :D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved Fire & Flood, well after the first 20% or so. Once the story got into the Brimstonebleed, it was difficult to put down. Victoria Scott did an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteI definitely need Guy in my life if for no other reason than to keep me alive. He's a survivor and he teaches Tella to be a survivor though his actions. I like that.
ReplyDeleteI've heard lots of good things about F&F! I had an ARC, but I let a friend review it for me, since my review schedule was already pretty hectic. Hopefully I'll get to read it soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for this book!! I've heard great things so far and that cover!! *drools*
